IN-COUNTRY SEMINAR FOR LEBANON
Opening the Door to the World: EBESM Assists in the Internationalisation of Lebanese SMEs
How to unlock the potential of Lebanese SMEs to export and compete in a global market? With this highly-leveraged question in mind, EBESM organised a seminar on October 9th and 10th in the Beirut Crown Plaza Hotel, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry.
With a core focus on improving the implementation of the SBA, in particular its principle 10 “Encourage and support SMEs to benefit from the growth of markets” the seminar programme bore down on two major themes: “Export promotion strategies” and “facilitation of the access to global markets”.
Drawing on the practical experience in EU and MED countries in supporting SME globalisation, the seminar presented contextual good practices and proposed reflections on possible models for Lebanon’s specific situation. Between the 40 participants, from national authorities, public sector, businesses and academia, the seminar generated in-depth discussions about how to help Lebanese SMEs benefit from high-value and growth markets. The highly engaging debates identified potential for government action that could improve the stance of Lebanese SMEs with regard to global competition.
