IN-COUNTRY SEMINAR FOR MOROCCO - PART I
Designing Appropriate Policies for SMEs: EBESM Assists Morocco in Improving Access to Information and Enhancing the SME Observatory
Critical in terms of job creation in the Kingdom, and in the context of an increasingly competitive economic environment, access to real-time and directly useable economic and financial information on SMEs is a strategic advantage and a challenge for all players and policy-makers. With this major competitiveness factor in mind, EBESM organised a workshop in collaboration with the Agence nationale pour la promotion de la petite et moyenne entreprise (ANPME) to help improve the SME Observatory that Morocco is developing.
A highly distinguished group of participants, drawing together government officials, board members of the Moroccan SME Observatory and members of several Moroccan business associations, tackled this complex question on June 24th, in the headquarters of ANPME, in Rabat.
The seminar highlighted a number of complex issues and convincingly recommended ways and means of improving the economic impact of the SME Observatory in Morocco.
Inspired by best practices from MED and European countries, all participants discussed how best to strengthen and coordinate many local efforts to improving quality and quantity of information collection, production and analysis to empower the SME Observatory. The vibrant debates and the strong interest in the issue of access to information let to discussions that continued long after the official closing of the event.
